Eight Bells
This bleak and remote landing strip to the South East of the Gilf Kebir was laid out during WWII. Made from the two gallon fuel cans used by the British forces at that time which were filled with sand, a large arrow points to the North and the '8 BELLS' is spelled out in the sand. Over time, the steel can have black oxidized in the dry desert air. But the cans resist attempts by the desert to cover them up and legend they spell out will still be just visible from the air as it was 65 years ago.

Eight Bells is visited during the narative in "War Gold"
